Founded by Herb Reed in 1953, The Platters helped define the sound of American pop and rhythm and blues before most of the acts they influenced were born. The Temptations, Boyz II Men, Destiny’s Child: the vocal harmony standard Reed’s group set runs through all of them. That is not a legacy claim. It is a documented lineage.
This is not a retrospective or a nostalgia revue. The official Platters organization, carried forward by Herb Reed Enterprises, LLC under Frederick J. Balboni, Jr., Reed’s handpicked successor, continues to perform worldwide. The show is built for theatres, performing arts centers, casinos, and corporate events, and it draws across generations. Grandparents and their grandchildren know these songs. That kind of cross-generational pull is genuinely rare on a live stage.
