ABOUT YEMEN BLUES
Yemen Blues defies category—an electrifying collision of cultures, eras, and languages that forms one of the most original sounds in global music today. Founded in 2010 by visionary vocalist and composer Ravid Kahalani, the group draws on Yemenite, Jewish, and Arabic traditions while freely bending them into new shapes. Their music is a seamless hybrid of funk, highlife, blues, Bedouin folk, gnawa trance, hip-hop, psych, jazz, and ecstatic soul, all propelled by Kahalani’s raw, shape-shifting vocals in Hebrew, Arabic, French, Haitian Creole, and invented dialects.
Built around the alchemy of its core members—Kahalani, percussionist Rony Iwryn, bassist/oud master Shanir Blumenkranz, and drummer Dan Mayo—Yemen Blues operates like a four-way spiritual engine. Hypnotic polyrhythms, deep desert melodies, and explosive improvisation collide to create a sound that feels ancient yet boldly contemporary. Their latest work, including Only Love Remains and Shabazai – A Tribute to the Poet, pushes them into grittier, more electrifying territory, delivering a global soundtrack for modern catharsis.
Onstage, Yemen Blues is a storm—horns blazing, drums thundering, voices soaring. At its core, the band is driven by a belief in music’s unifying power: spirituality, freedom, and love woven into every note. It sounds timeless. It sounds like today.
